Who can take part

  • You are 45 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for elective (planned) non-cardiac surgery on your abdomen or chest.
  • After surgery, you will stay in an advanced recovery unit overnight and then go to a regular hospital ward.
  • You do not have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm).
  • You are not pregnant, and you are not having emergency surgery.
  • You have not chosen a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order or end-of-life care.
