- You must be 18 years old or older
- You are having surgery (planned or urgent) with general or regional anesthesia
- You will stay in the hospital for at least 3 days after surgery
- You are able to communicate and take part in simple confusion tests
- You do not have severe confusion or advanced dementia before surgery
- You are not going to the intensive care unit right after surgery
