Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a minimally invasive chest surgery (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery).
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • Your overall health is rated as ASA Class I, II, or III (healthy to moderately sick).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have no history of chronic pain, alcohol or opioid dependence, significant heart or lung issues, central nervous system disorders, liver or kidney problems, or allergies to the numbing medicines used.
  • You do not have an infection where the numbing medicine would be given, and you are able to communicate easily with the medical team.
