Who can take part
- You have a blood cancer (such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or other related disorder).
- You are about to start treatment that weakens your immune system, such as chemotherapy or a stem cell transplant.
- Your doctor expects your neutrophil count (a type of white blood cell) to become very low (under 500 or 1000, with a further drop expected within 48 hours).
- You have signed an agreement to join the study.
- You are not known to already carry a specific type of resistant bacteria (ESBL or carbapenemase-producing).
