Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have a blood cancer and are receiving strong chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant from a donor, or CAR-T therapy.
- You have a fever (temperature at least 100.9°F once or 100.4°F for at least an hour) and very low white blood cells (less than 100 cells per cubic millimeter) that are expected to last a week or more.
- You are in the hospital or need to be admitted right away for the fever.
- You have not had a recent infection or been colonized with drug-resistant bacteria.
