Who can take part

  • You are being treated for a blood cancer like leukemia or lymphoma with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or a stem cell transplant.
  • You have recently had a positive test for carbapenem-resistant bacteria or are being tested weekly while in the hospital.
  • Your doctor thinks you are at high risk for this infection and needs to give you IV antibiotics that cover these bacteria.
  • You have a fever or other signs of infection.
  • Your white blood cell count is very low (neutropenia) and expected to stay low for 7 days or more, plus you have at least one other serious condition like gut inflammation, shock, breathing problems, or organ failure.
  • You or your legal guardian can sign a consent form.
