- You are staying in an intensive care unit, a general medicine or surgery ward, or visiting a pulmonary lab or clinic at Rush University Medical Center.
- You already have a doctor's order for an arterial blood gas test (either from an artery line or a needle stick).
- You do not have heavy scar tissue where the sensor would be placed.
- You do not have hand tremors that could affect the reading.
- You can remove any opaque nail polish (nail polish that you cannot see through) before the test.
