Who can take part

  • You have a single stone in the kidney's main drainage area (renal pelvis).
  • You are under 18 years old.
  • You do not have any other urinary tract problems (present from birth or later).
  • You do not have any lung disease (like chronic lung disease or pleural effusion).
  • You do not have multiple kidney stones, stones in the kidney's cuplike structures (calyces), or a blockage where the kidney meets the ureter.
  • You do not have a kidney located in an unusual position (pelvic kidney).
