New test for finding germs in spinal fluid during brain infections

Who can take part

  • You or your guardian must agree to join the study.
  • You must have at least two symptoms of a brain or spine infection (like headache, fever, stiff neck, confusion, or new seizures).
  • Your spinal fluid must show signs of infection (white blood cells), unless you have a weak immune system.
  • The spinal fluid sample must come from your first spinal tap and be enough (at least half a milliliter).
  • The sample must be stored correctly (not left out too long, not frozen for too long, and not thawed too many times).
