  • Born at 27 weeks plus 0 days to 34 weeks plus 6 days of pregnancy
  • Breathing on your own but needing a breathing machine or help like a mask or nasal tubes
  • Has a lung problem called Respiratory Distress Syndrome, seen on chest X-ray, or is at risk of getting it
  • Born at this hospital (not transferred from another hospital)
  • Not put on a breathing tube in the delivery room or within the first 2 hours of life
  • No major birth defects or severe health problems like hydrops, inherited metabolism issues, or air leaking from lungs
