Exercise to protect the brain after a first stroke

Who can take part

  • You had your first stroke (either from a clot or bleeding) in the last 6 months, confirmed by a doctor.
  • You can walk at least 30 feet on your own (a cane or walker is okay).
  • You are medically stable enough to exercise safely.
  • You do not have a diagnosis of dementia or take medicines that affect thinking.
  • You are not already doing a formal exercise program outside of your regular rehab.
  • You have no medical condition or pain that gets worse with exercise, and you can follow instructions safely.
