Brain stimulation and core exercises for stroke recovery

This study tests if combining a gentle electrical brain stimulation (transcranial direct current stimulation) with core stability exercises helps improve trunk control after a stroke. It may be helpful if you are 55 or older, had your first stroke within the past six months, and can stand and walk on your own.

Who can take part

  • You are 55 years old or older
  • You had your first stroke (left or right side) within the last 6 months
  • You can stand and walk independently without help
  • Your arm is not very stiff (muscle tightness is no more than a 1+ on the scale used by doctors)
  • You have been doing regular physical therapy after leaving the hospital
  • You are not currently in any other research study or placebo group
