Who can take part
- You are an adult having weight loss surgery (a type called laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy).
- Your body mass index (BMI) is higher than 35.
- You have had a full medical checkup before surgery, including blood tests and visits with a team of specialists.
- Your obesity is not caused by another condition like Cushing's syndrome or PCOS.
- You do not have stomach cancer or have had stomach surgery before.
- You do not have an active inflammatory or autoimmune disease, a chronic infection, or have taken anti-inflammatory or immune-suppressing medicines in the last 3 months.
