Who can take part
- You are scheduled for bariatric (weight-loss) surgery at Vanderbilt.
- Your BMI is 40 or higher, or over 35 with a related condition like diabetes or high blood pressure.
- You are willing to have extra blood draws, imaging scans, and a small piece of liver tissue taken during surgery.
- You can give informed consent in English.
- You do not have any metal implants or devices that are not safe for MRI scans.
