Who can take part

  • You’re between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You have a diagnosed problem with blood sugar or type 2 diabetes, and your diabetes is fairly controlled (HbA1c 9.0% or less).
  • You’re considered eligible for weight-loss (bariatric) surgery through the NHS, and you have not had bariatric surgery before.
  • You’re not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you can use reliable contraception during the study and for one month after.
  • You don’t smoke.
  • You can do brain MRI scans (fMRI), and you don’t have metal/implants or severe claustrophobia that would prevent MRI.
