Ventral hernia after cytoreductive surgery: risks and treatment

This study looks at how common ventral hernias (bulges in the belly) are after a certain type of abdominal cancer surgery called cytoreductive surgery with or without heated chemotherapy. It also looks at what increases the risk and how these hernias are treated. If you've had this surgery, your experience can help doctors improve care.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You had cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with or without heated chemotherapy (HIPEC) for pseudomyxoma peritonei, colorectal cancer that spread to the abdomen, or ovarian cancer that spread to the abdomen.
  • Your surgery was between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2024.
  • You did not have a ventral hernia (a belly bulge) at the surgery site before this surgery.
  • You had follow-up medical visits for at least one year after the surgery.
