Who can take part
- You are having open abdominal surgery (not laparoscopic) that is expected to last over an hour
- Your health status is classified as ASA I, II, or III (a standard measure of fitness for surgery)
- You are 18 years or older
- You do not have severe obesity (BMI over 30) or significant underweight (BMI under 18)
- You do not have advanced lung, liver, or kidney disease, a neuromuscular disorder, or a history of malignant hyperthermia
- You are not pregnant and are not taking certain medications that affect muscle function
