Who can take part

  • You are getting intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for head and neck cancer, either after surgery or as your main treatment.
  • Your radiation plan keeps the average dose to both parotid (salivary) glands at 25 Gray (Gy) or less.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You do not have uncontrolled health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart, liver, or kidney disease.
  • You have not used medications like pilocarpine or other dry mouth treatments in the past 2 months.
  • You do not have Sjögren's disease or another condition that already causes dry mouth.
