Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 80 years old and have head and neck squamous cell cancer (including nasopharyngeal cancer).
  • You are about to receive radiation therapy (alone or with chemo) that will deliver at least 25 Gy to your parotid glands.
  • You have adequate blood counts (hemoglobin, platelets, white blood cells).
  • You do not have a history of dry mouth, Sjögren's syndrome, or other conditions causing dry mouth.
  • You are not allergic to wheat or gluten.
  • You have not had radiation to the head and neck before, and you are not taking certain medications that affect saliva production.
