Who can take part

  • Your child is between 2 and 16 years old.
  • Your child has been newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
  • Your child is in the hospital for their first diabetes evaluation and treatment.
  • Your child may or may not have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of diabetes).
  • Your child has no other known chronic kidney or heart disease, or active infections unrelated to diabetes.
