Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) due to a recent heart stoppage or because your heart can't pump enough blood
  • You had a blood test within 4 hours of being admitted to the special heart unit
  • Your medical record includes your height and weight
  • You were not first stabilized at another hospital or had your ventilator settings changed before your first blood test
