Who can take part

  • Your child has a single kidney stone (not more than one).
  • The stone is between 6 mm and 20 mm in size (about the size of a small pea to a large pea).
  • Your child's doctor plans to treat the stone with shock wave therapy (ESWL) as the first choice.
  • Your child does not have a stent in the ureter (the tube from the kidney to the bladder).
  • The stone is in the kidney, not in the ureter.
  • Your child does not have an unusual kidney shape (like a pelvic kidney or horseshoe kidney).
  • Your child does not have an active urinary tract infection (UTI) right now.
  • Your child does not have a bleeding disorder (like hemophilia).
