Who can take part

  • Child is between 6 months and 18 years old
  • Child has a blockage in the ureter (the tube draining one kidney) that needs open surgical repair
  • Child has not had previous surgery on the same kidney or urinary tract
  • Child does not have other urinary tract birth defects or two-sided blockages
  • Child does not have a current urinary tract infection and can have required ultrasound and imaging tests before and after surgery
  • Parent or legal guardian can commit to completing all follow-up visits
