Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have knee arthritis and need a first-time total knee replacement on one knee.
  • You are generally healthy enough for planned surgery (ASA class I, II, or III).
  • You are not on blood thinners that cannot be adjusted for surgery, and you do not have a bleeding disorder.
  • You are not allergic to tranexamic acid (a medicine to reduce bleeding).
  • You do not have an active infection or a weak immune system.
  • You do not have severe blood vessel disease in the leg being operated on.
  • Your BMI is 45 or lower.
