- You are 18 years or older
- This is your first open heart surgery (no previous heart surgery)
- You have not taken pain medication in the 4 hours before the procedure
- Your current pain level is at least 3 out of 10
- Your feet have no skin lesions, burns, or open wounds that would prevent massage
- You are willing to participate voluntarily
