Ear nerve stimulation plus rehabilitation for chronic back pain
Part of Ear, nose & throat, Pain clinical trials.
This trial tests a non-surgical treatment that stimulates a nerve in your ear while you do rehabilitation exercises to reduce chronic back pain. It may help if you've had pain for more than 6 months and pain medications aren't working well enough.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- Age 30–65 years old
- Chronic muscle or skeletal back pain (not from trauma, fracture, tumor, or severe spine degeneration)
- Pain lasting more than 6 months that hasn't responded well to standard pain medications
- Ability to walk 300–480 meters in 6 minutes or similar functional capacity
- Pain intensity moderate (not mild, not severe) based on a standard pain scale
- No previous nerve stimulation treatments, no heart rhythm problems, and no active implanted devices like pacemakers

This trial tests a wearable device that stimulates a nerve in your ear to help manage long-lasting back pain. It's designed for people whose pain hasn't improved with standard pain medications.
This trial tests if stimulating the vagus nerve through the ear can reduce chronic low back pain in people who haven't gotten enough relief from painkillers. It aims to see if this non-invasive treatment can help manage pain without medication.
This trial tests if a device that stimulates the vagus nerve can reduce pain and improve daily activities for people with chronic widespread pain or fibromyalgia.
This trial tests if a non-invasive device that stimulates a nerve in your ear can help reduce pain after complex spine surgery. It may offer a drug-free option for managing postoperative pain.
This trial tests combining a gentle electrical stimulation applied to your ear with a standard neck injection procedure to treat pinched nerves in the cervical spine (neck). The ear stimulation may help reduce pain and improve recovery.
This trial tests a gentle, non-invasive treatment that stimulates a nerve in your ear to help reduce pain caused by spinal cord injury. The device is placed on the outside of your ear and may help manage neuropathic pain (pain from nerve damage) without surgery.
