Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a complex spine surgery under general anesthesia.
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • Your physical status is healthy to mildly limited (ASA class I, II, or III).
  • You do not have any sores or infections on your ear skin.
  • You do not have a slow heart rate (below 60 bpm) or a serious heart block.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device.
  • You do not have a mental health condition requiring long-term medication.
  • You have no severe liver or kidney disease.
  • You can understand and cooperate with pain and recovery questionnaires.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, not expected to need another surgery or ICU stay, and not in another trial.
