- Your stroke was your first one and affected only one side of your body
- You have weakness or paralysis in your arm and hand from the stroke
- It has been 3 to 12 months since your stroke
- You can sit upright in a chair with support
- You can understand and communicate well enough to follow instructions
- Your other arm (the unaffected one) works normally without structural problems
