New Pacemakers and Heart Function Study

This study compares newer pacemaker types to see how well they work and how they affect your heart's pumping ability and valve function over a short period. You'll be monitored closely with heart imaging to understand which pacemaker performs best.

Who can take part

  • You need a permanent pacemaker for a heart rhythm problem called high-degree AV block (where electrical signals between heart chambers are severely delayed or blocked)
  • Your heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle) must be working at least at 50% capacity
  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You can have an MRI scan, CT scan, or a special ultrasound called TEE (transesophageal echocardiogram) without problems
  • You do not have severe leaking of your tricuspid valve (right side of heart) or severe right heart weakness
  • You are stable enough to wait for a permanent pacemaker and do not need temporary emergency pacing right now
