This research study compares the bacteria in urine, around the genital area, and in stool between children with overactive bladder (frequent urgent need to urinate) and healthy children. The goal is to understand if differences in these bacteria might explain why some children develop overactive bladder.

Who can take part

  • If you have overactive bladder: you must have at least two wet days per week and have never taken medicine for this condition before
  • If you have overactive bladder: you cannot have taken any systemic antibiotics in the past 3 months
  • You cannot have a urinary tract infection now or within the last 3 months
  • You cannot have any known birth defects or abnormalities of the urinary system
  • You cannot have serious digestive or nervous system diseases
  • Your urine dipstick test must be negative (no signs of infection or other problems)
