Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 45 years old
  • You are pregnant with one baby (not twins or multiples)
  • You have a planned (elective) cesarean section scheduled
  • You plan to use spinal anesthesia for your surgery
  • You are in generally good health (ASA physical status II—meaning one mild health condition or normal pregnancy)
  • You do not have high blood pressure during pregnancy, heart disease, kidney disease, or blood cell disorders
