Who can take part
- You suffered a blunt-force head injury (like a car accident, fall, or impact) within the last few days, not a penetrating wound
- A CT scan confirmed bleeding or swelling inside your brain
- You are deeply unconscious (Glasgow Coma Scale score between 3 and 8) and have been for at least 48 hours
- You are on a mechanical ventilator (breathing machine) to help you breathe
- You are at least 18 years old
- Your doctors expect you to stay in intensive care for at least 72 hours
- Your family can be approached for consent on hospital day 3, and the study would start by day 4
