Who can take part

  • Child is between 3 and 18 years old
  • Child weighs more than 10 kg (about 22 lbs)
  • Having surgery at Nemours Children's Hospital – Delaware Valley for a broken bone in the upper arm or forearm
  • No allergy to numbing medications (lidocaine or similar)
  • Not eligible for or choosing to have a nerve block (numbing injection near the shoulder or elbow)
  • No open or severely broken bones, seizure history, or serious heart rhythm problems
