Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer in your mouth, throat, or neck) that has never been treated
- Your cancer is stage III or IV (advanced) but can be surgically removed
- Your cancer shows PD-L1 protein expression (a marker that suggests immunotherapy may work)
- You are between 18 and 70 years old
- You are in good enough health to tolerate treatment (Karnofsky score of 70 or higher, meaning you can care for yourself with minimal assistance)
- Your blood, liver, and kidney function are adequate within the past week
