This trial tests two different types of numbing injections (nerve blocks) to see which one works better at controlling pain after open kidney removal surgery. You would receive one of these blocks during surgery to help reduce pain and the amount of strong pain medication you need afterward.

Who can take part
- Scheduled for elective (planned) open kidney removal surgery through a flank (side) incision under general anesthesia
- Between 18 and 65 years old
- In generally good health (ASA physical status I, II, or III—your doctor can confirm this)
- No allergy to local anesthetics (numbing medications)
- No bleeding disorders and not currently taking blood-thinning medications
- Able to understand and describe your pain level during the study
