Nerve Blocks to Improve Recovery After Heart Surgery

Who can take part

  • You are having elective (planned) open-heart surgery through a chest incision with a heart-lung machine
  • You are between 18 and 70 years old
  • Your heart function is reasonably preserved (ejection fraction 40% or higher)
  • Your kidneys and liver are working well
  • You do not have an active infection at the surgical site or a bleeding disorder
  • You are not allergic to anesthesia medications or local numbing agents
