Chlorhexidine spray to prevent radiation skin damage in throat cancer

This study tests whether a chlorhexidine spray (an antiseptic liquid) can prevent or reduce skin damage caused by radiation therapy in people being treated for nasopharyngeal cancer (cancer in the back of the nose/throat). Radiation dermatitis—painful redness and irritation of the skin—is a common side effect, and this spray may help protect your skin during treatment.

Who can take part

  • Diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (cancer in the back of the nose) confirmed by biopsy or cell sample
  • Stage II or III cancer with lymph node involvement (N≥1)
  • Planning to receive radiation therapy plus chemotherapy as your first cancer treatment
  • Radiation dose will be 60–70 Gy (standard for this cancer type)
  • No allergy or sensitivity to chlorhexidine (the active ingredient in the spray)
  • No other skin conditions, active cancer elsewhere, or severe health problems that would interfere with the study
