Who can take part
- You are between ages 10–18 with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (curved spine that developed during growth) or neuromuscular scoliosis (curved spine from a muscle or nerve condition)
- You are scheduled to have posterior spinal fusion surgery (surgery to straighten and fuse vertebrae from the back of the spine)
- You do not have an allergy to ropivacaine (a numbing medication) or erector spinae plane blocks
- You are not taking opioid pain medications before surgery, or your doctor approves the nerve block if you are
- You do not have scoliosis from other causes (like infection, tumor, or connective tissue disease)
- You are not having a different type of spine surgery
