Who can take part

  • You are 14 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for surgery to correct scoliosis (a curved spine).
  • You or your legal guardian can sign a consent form agreeing to the study.
  • You are not allergic to local anesthetics like ropivacaine (numbing medicine).
  • You have no family history of malignant hyperthermia (a severe reaction to anesthesia).
  • You do not have serious heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease, or a neurological or psychiatric condition.
