Who can take part
- Age 18–65 years old
- Type 2 diabetes diagnosed by standard criteria, either untreated or on stable diabetes medication
- Blood sugar (HbA1c) between 7.0% and 10.5%
- Healthy overall except for diabetes, with no serious heart, kidney, or liver disease
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding (if female), and willing to use contraception
- Not currently taking insulin, some newer diabetes drugs, or certain medications that interact with HMS1005
