Magnetic Brain Stimulation for Postpartum OCD

Postpartum Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

This study tests whether transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)—a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses on the scalp to stimulate brain activity—can help reduce obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms that develop or worsen after childbirth. You would receive TMS sessions while potentially continuing your current OCD medications or therapy.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 45 years old
  • You have OCD diagnosed according to standard criteria with symptoms starting or worsening within 12 months after giving birth
  • Your OCD symptoms are moderate to severe (score of 16 or higher on the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale)
  • You are either taking stable OCD medication for at least 8 weeks OR not currently on OCD medications
  • You speak, read, and write English well enough to complete the study
  • You are not currently pregnant and agree to use birth control during the study
