Who can take part

  • You are having elective (planned, non-emergency) surgery that requires muscle-relaxing drugs
  • Both your arms must be positioned the same way during surgery so sensors can be placed on them
  • You have no history of nerve or muscle disorders (like stroke or myasthenia gravis)
  • You have no arm or hand problems (such as carpal tunnel syndrome, severe arthritis, or Dupuytren's contracture)
  • Your liver and kidneys work well enough to process muscle-relaxing medications normally
  • Your skin at the sensor sites is healthy with no wounds, rashes, or lesions
