Pain relief methods for lung viewing procedure

Who can take part

  • Scheduled to undergo medical thoracoscopy (a procedure to look inside the lungs with a camera)
  • In overall fair to good health (ASA class I, II, or III)
  • Body mass index (BMI) of 35 kg/m² or lower
  • No current chronic opioid pain medication use or history of opioid misuse
  • No contraindications to nerve block (no severe bleeding disorders, skin infection at injection site, or patient refusal)
  • No previous chest surgery (thoracotomy) or severe chest wall deformity
