Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You had surgery to remove both sides of your thyroid gland
- On the day after surgery, blood tests showed low parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, but not so low you need special medication right away
- You don't have a history of weak bones (osteoporosis)
- You weren't already taking calcium and vitamin D supplements before your thyroid surgery
- Your kidneys are working reasonably well (not severely damaged)
