Calcium and Vitamin D to prevent low calcium after thyroid surgery

Postoperative Symptomatic Hypocalcemia Following Total Thyroidectomy

Part of Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.

This study tests whether taking calcium plus vitamin D before thyroid surgery prevents a common side effect—low blood calcium after the operation. You'd receive either calcium alone or calcium with vitamin D, and the researchers will track which works better.

Vitamin D before thyroid surgery to prevent low calcium

This study tests whether taking vitamin D (cholecalciferol) before a total thyroid removal can reduce the risk of developing low blood calcium afterward. If you’re having your thyroid removed, the results may help prevent symptoms like tingling, cramps, or spasms caused by low calcium.

Preventing low parathyroid after thyroid surgery

This study aims to find ways to detect and prevent low parathyroid function after thyroid surgery. If you are having your whole thyroid removed, joining could help researchers learn how to improve recovery.
