Proton vs. Standard Radiation for Head and Neck Cancer

Who can take part

  • Age 40 or older
  • Confirmed squamous cell carcinoma (a type of head and neck cancer) in the mouth, throat, or voice box
  • Planned to receive radiation therapy with the goal of curing the cancer, with or without chemotherapy
  • Good enough overall health to tolerate treatment (ECOG score 0–2)
  • Able to complete questionnaires and follow study visits in Norwegian or English
  • Willing to travel to Oslo or Bergen if randomly assigned to proton therapy
