Who can take part
- Confirmed diagnosis of liver cirrhosis (scarring of the liver confirmed by blood tests, imaging, or clinical exam)
- Enlarged spleen (splenomegaly) with overactive spleen function (hypersplenism)
- Previous bleeding from esophageal or gastric varices (enlarged veins in the food pipe or stomach)
- Age between 18 and 80 years old
- Liver function classified as Child-Pugh Class A or B (moderate liver damage, not the most severe stage)
- No prior kidney disease or acute kidney injury (AKI), and able to commit to 24 months of follow-up visits
