Nerve blocks for pain relief after heart bypass surgery

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • You are scheduled for elective (planned) coronary artery bypass graft surgery under general anesthesia
  • Your surgery will include saphenous vein harvesting (taking a vein from your leg to use as a bypass graft)
  • You are able to answer pain and recovery questions using simple rating scales during your hospital stay
  • You have not had an allergic reaction to local anesthetics (numbing medicines), morphine, or similar medications
  • You are willing to sign a consent form and participate in the full study
