This study tests whether a shingles vaccine (Shingrix) combined with a diabetes medication (a GLP-1 agonist) can help preserve your pancreas's ability to make insulin when you've recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The goal is to slow down the autoimmune attack on your insulin-producing cells.

Who can take part

  • Recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (within 100 days of starting insulin)
  • Age 18–50 years old
  • Still have some pancreas function (shown by a blood test called C-peptide level)
  • Have specific diabetes-related antibodies in your blood (a sign of autoimmune type 1 diabetes)
  • Able and willing to check blood sugar multiple times daily and take insulin as directed
  • Not pregnant, not breastfeeding, and willing to use effective birth control if applicable
