Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 1 month and 12 years old.
  • Your child needs to have an arterial blood sample drawn as part of their regular medical care.
  • Your child cannot have certain blood disorders like methemoglobinemia or high levels of carboxyhemoglobin (a type of carbon monoxide in the blood).
  • Your child cannot have severe anemia or very low hematocrit (a measure of red blood cells).
  • Your child cannot be on a heart-lung bypass machine (ECMO) or have certain heart conditions that affect blood flow.
